Hybrid Integration and Visualizaiton Engine (HIVE)

BlueMax v7.2 release supports both fixed wing and rotary wing (RW) vehicles. BlueMax v7.2 is the first version to support rotary wing air vehicles. Prior versions of BlueMax supported only fix wing aircraft and Unmanned Air Systems (UAS). BlueMax v7.2 support for UAS has also been enhanced. The BlueMax v7.2 release includes the aircraft flight dynamics simulation, user interface, selected aero data sets, and a User’s Manual.

BlueMax7 provides high-fidelity, air-vehicle dynamics and Time & Space Position Information (TSPI) for constructive and virtual modeling simulation and analysis. BlueMax7 output can be fed directly into other models, such as ESAMS, RADGUNS, SUPPRESSOR, JAAM, and the model can be directly interfaced to constructive non-real-time or virtual real-time environments.

BlueMax7 is a pseudo-6-DOF point-mass aircraft flight dynamics model. It uses installed propulsion data, trimmed aerodynamic data, flight control laws/limiters, and structural limit data and is used to construct realistic air-vehicle TSPI data for input into other models, analysis tools, and environments for the purpose of conducting aircraft susceptibility and survivability analysis. BlueMax7 has a standalone tool for determining aircraft mission performance, aero-performance, and energy maneuverability. It incorporates the WGS84 Spheroid and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Digital Elevation Terrain Data (DTED Level 0 to 2) to construct realistic Terrain Following (TF) flight paths.

BlueMax7 flight paths and aircraft maneuvers are constructed as a sequence of flight segments commanded via the Input Scenario File. Each flight segment is controlled by a set of command variables, such as latitude, longitude, heading, altitude, velocity, g-factor, roll angle, etc., along with the aircraft-specific maneuver limits, such as maximum/minimum g-factor and maximum roll rate.

BMv7.2 documentation includes:

  • User Manual
  • Methodology Manual
  • Interface Control Manual

Manuals are available on the DoDTechipedia, Joint Aircraft Survivability Program Office Wiki page, at https://www.dodtechipedia.mil/dodwiki/display/JAS/BlueMax.

Input

The BM User experience includes multiple ways to interact with application simulation and data.  Stand-alone BM with a graphical user interface (GUI) supports interactive users and virtual users; and BM without a GUI is interfaced to multiple external applications.

  • Stand-alone BM
    • Interactive:  BM supports interactive GUI. The user friendly GUI provides an advanced array of logic to control flight by using a collection of way points and/or scripted maneuvers.
    • Virtual: BM supports real-time virtual flight using hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) for FW and HOTAS and pedals for RW aircraft.

The BM application is government owned and widely releasable to the DoD; however, specific aircraft aero/engine data sets releasability vary.  Aero/engine data release is controlled by the specific aircraft program offices and/or aircraft prime contractor.
