DSIAC is seeking information about modular payloads (in the 1U–3U size range) and power and propulsion units for UAV Groups 1–3. This request is supporting ongoing U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) research.
Modular payloads must currently meet, or have the capability of meeting, the U.S. Special Operations Command’s modular payload compliance standard. Radio frequency-based payloads are of specific interest, but other payloads are welcome. The payload requirements include the following:
- Power: maximum of 56 W at 28 volts of direct current (VDC). Power must be provided by the modular aircraft interface module (MAIM) to each payload interface. Additional power must be provided from a different MAIM and must be input through an auxiliary payload module connector.
- Voltage: must be able to accommodate fluctuations of +/- 2% from 28 VDC
- Weight: approximately 700 g for a 1U module, 900 g for a 2U module, and 1.1 kg for a 3U module
- Size:
Module Size | Height (in) | Width (in) | Depth (in) |
1U | 1.5 | 4.29 | 6.25–7.25 |
2U | 3.05 | 4.29 | 6.25–7.25 |
3U | 4.6 | 4.29 | 6.25– 7.25 |
Power and propulsion units must meet or exceed 14–17 kW and can be installed horizontally or vertically on UAV Groups 1–3. Electronic propulsion units, as well as hybrid engines, are of interest.
