Taught by former Director of Live Fire for DOT&E, Mr. James F. O’Bryon, this 3-day, intensive short course takes a multifaceted look at the legislation, directives, requirements, preparation, and execution of Live Fire Testing and Evaluation (LFT&E)—a statutory requirement for most major defense acquisition programs since 1987.
More than 99% of the 1,100 civilian and military personnel, engineers (both contractors and government), test planners, vulnerability/lethality analysts, M&S developers, instrumentation technicians, program managers, test range operators, and related analysts who completed this training gave the following rating: “I would recommend this training to my coworkers.”

Land and air system vulnerability and lethality for both conventional and unconventional weapons will be discussed; however, sea systems will also be addressed. Heavy emphasis will be placed on LFT&E lessons learned and common misunderstandings regarding LFT&E program execution. The course includes lectures, photos, hardware demonstrations, video clips of LFT&E events, group discussions, and exercises. A realistic case study is also included to enable class groups to apply the concepts presented. Ample time will also permit productive give-and-take between students and instructor. This course has been updated to reflect recent congressional impact on the reorganization and reporting of LFT&E.
