Steve Rowley, professional tinkerer and wonderer, served 5 years in the United States Marine Corps as an aviation hydraulic mechanic and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Utah and began his science career at the same university where he provided periodic maintenance on scientific equipment and built structural apparatuses for experimentation, including a fleet of programmable, field-deployable automated atmospheric CO2 measurement systems. In 2010 he joined Rivertop Renewables, a startup chemical company, where he supervised 7 chemists in an oxidation process development lab, supported engineering efforts through the design, construction, and startup of the world’s first commercial glucaric acid manufacturing plant, and lead external manufacturing efforts to fully commercialize a novel powdered/granulated aluminum sodium glucarate product. In 2017 Steve founded Division by Zero Labs, a contract testing lab that specializes in spray drying process development, scale-up, and manufacturing of powdered products. DbZ Labs has provided development services to over 200 customers, commercialized dozens of novel powdered products, and currently provides spray drying expertise to the United States Army and Air Force in their efforts to develop various novel nitramine-based secondary high-explosive compositions. Steve has served on the board of the American Chemical Society’s Montana Section since 2018 and holds 1 patent
