The Defense Systems Information Analysis Center (DSIAC) is seeking information on atmospheric Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) systems to detect turbulence, wind shear, and aerosol and ice particles. Specifically, DSIAC is seeking information concerning the use of photodiodes for coherence detection in atmospheric LiDAR systems. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using single, high-sensitivity avalanche photodiodes vs. matching pair pin photodiodes in these systems?
