DSIAC was asked to find information on the Chinese 5.8- x 42-mm/DPB10 cartridge composition, lethality, armor penetration, proliferation of the round, ballistic test data, and comparisons of performance against the 5.56- x 45-mm and 7.62- x 39-mm rounds. DSIAC staff contacted the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center, Product Manager Small-Caliber Ammunition; Survivability Lethality Analysis Directorate; Combatting Terrorism Technical Support Office; National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC); Special Operations Combatant Command (USSOCOM), and small arms/lethality subject matter experts at SURVICE Engineering, NTS-Chesapeake Testing, and Phoenix Defense for relevant information. Open-source information for materials and ballistics comparisons (velocity vs. range) and classified documents with more extensive information on materials and ballistics data were provided to the inquirer. The inquirer was also connected with an NGIC foreign weapons analyst for further discussions.
