There are stories that that close quarter (CQB/CQC) sights should not be designed for unity magnification due to eye strain, and that the supposed “ideal” magnification allegedly lies in the area of 1.03-1.05 times. Therefore, DSIAC subject matter experts (SMEs) from TRI-Austin performed searches of both open and DTIC R&E Gateway sources as well as contacting multiple experts within the Department of Defense for any correlating proof or information. While no published data or reports on the topic of sights causing eye strain was found, a response was procured from an optical physicist that discredited the issues of eye strain connected with designed optics. This response was forwarded to the inquirer.
