DSIAC was tasked with determining what equipment and materials are required to produce small BLDC motors to use in small drone quadcopters. DSIAC performed literary searches in open sources and the DTIC Research and Engineering Gateway for relevant information and reports related to producing and designing BLDC motors. For additional comments and expertise, DSIAC contacted subject matter experts at SURVICE Engineering’s Applied Technology Operation and the Intelligent Systems Center at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. This report includes a basic introduction to BLDC motors; their relation and importance to small, unmanned aircraft systems; and the process/materials required to manufacture them.
