What efforts are now being performed to advance the state of the art in scramjet technologies?

A DSIAC subject matter expert from the Johns Hopkins University Energetics Research Group performed open-source and Joint Army Navy NASA Air Force (JANNAF) repository searches.

The U.S. Air Force (particularly, the Air Force Research Laboratory [AFRL] at Wright Patterson Air Force Base [AFB], OH, and AFRL at Edwards AFB, CA), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) all have and/or currently support programs to further the state of the art for hypersonic and scramjet technologies. Specific areas of active research include modeling heat transfer at hypersonic conditions, designing the vehicles and scramjet engines, supporting test facilities and boost vehicles, and researching ignition, combustion, and fuels for new scramjet vehicles. A report with synopsized research related to ignition, fuels, materials, modeling, shock control for inlet design, test facilities and vehicles, and recent programs was provided to the inquirer. Additionally, select documents from the JANNAF repository were provided.
